Nintendo comes down hard on anyone who infringes on its vast intellectual properties and software piracy. The Kyoto-based company has requested $4,500,000 in damages from a Reddit moderator who advocated and operated multiple piracy sites. The unnamed user was asked by Nintendo to cease and desist but ignored the warnings and the lawsuit and therefore Nintendo is now looking to a court for damages. OatmealDome has stated that this is not ModdedHardware, who unwisely chose to defend themselves in court.

Anyone who keeps screwing around with Nintendo, at this point, is an idiot. Reportedly, the user ignored multiple warnings from Nintendo's lawyers.

Yeah, a lot of these people don't understand the concept of your actions having consequences despite being grown adults. They think it's just like school where the worst you're probably going to get is a stern lecture and maybe a detention. Then they cry the blues (along with the "corporations are evil...because they make money!" types) when they face legal action and very rarely the silver bracelets.

Surprise surprise, distributing pirated games which are readily available for purchase at your nearest Best Buy is a crime.

You would think by now that they would have realised, it is not worth it to go against Nintendo, as it always ends up with the same outcome.

Unfortunately, in most cases, they do get left off with a slap on the wrist, and that is why they will go back and keep attempting to do it again.

I am glad that Nintendo is taking this more seriously now, and I hope that this gives a warning to others looking to ignore.

I have absolutely no issue with Nintendo going after pirates. I do have an issue with Nintendo shutting down fan projects and emulators for games that are 15-20 years old, especially ones they don't sell anymore.

Ehh, if you're daft enough to ignore warnings after you've already been caught... I have little sympathy.

That being said, I also have little sympathy for Nintendo after the Switch 2 "ownership" debacle.

Oh, I agree! Fan projects are, I believe, absolutely fine, and I don't see any issue with them offering an option to gamers who wish to still play older games, especially when there is no other way to get hold of those games now.

Piracy, on the other hand, especially with new games, I am all for Nintendo going after those.
