Microsoft Quietly Pulls the Plug on Its Movies and TV Store

The company notified users of the shutdown today.

Microsoft abruptly shut down its online movie and TV store. On Friday, the tech giant quietly updated both its general and Xbox support pages to reflect the changes. Users will no longer be able to buy new content from Microsoft.com and the Microsoft Store on Windows and Xbox.

Probably not too surprising. I don't know too many people who actually used the service regularly, but they did have good deals every now and again. I bought the entire walking dead series for $20 from them.

Yeah it's good that the previously purchased contents are still available for access. It is actually hard for them to break into digital video marketplace as it has been dominated by Netflix, Disney+ and co.

This is the first time I hear of Microsoft TV service. I don't think many would miss it as they have never really marketed it well compared to Netflix.

I'm never gonna miss it for sure. I think I used it once or twice. They have great prices, very competitive pricing but I've always known it would probably close down sooner or later.

Honestly I didn't know anyone who purchased movies and shows from Xbox. We're in a age where it's just easier to stream shows and movies so people usually don't buy movies unless they really like them. And if they are purchasing digital versions, they're doing so on places like Amazon.
