The muted response to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 from critics and fans appears to have translated into lower sales for the futuristic first-person shooter, with the game reportedly falling behind competitors in a few regions. The Game Business described Black Ops 7's European launch as "disappointing," citing GSD, which tracks physical and digital sales data.

Sales numbers for Black Ops 7's opening week are 63% below those of Battlefield 6, and The Game Business also estimates that sales are over 50% down compared to last year's Black Ops 6. Even still, the GSD numbers indicate that Black Ops 7 was still the top-selling game in Europe during its opening week.

Are you shocked at these numbers for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 or did you expect something like this?

It's sad, but Call of Duty seems to be in a bit of a rut right now. I never was a COD player, but I have immense respect for the ones who played back around '09 to '13, back when the series was in its heyday. My cousin was super into COD, I remember him showing it to me back in '10, the online looked so cool!

There was just a culture around COD and "core" gaming back in the late 2000s and early 2010s that is missing now. From what my cousin told me recently, modern COD games don't resemble the games from the heyday. I mean, Nicki Minaj was added into COD in 2023, that makes no sense when you consider the "core" gamers who the game targets. They want to see soldiers with guns shooting and blowing each other up, not some Fortnite ripoff live service. As I write this and do more research, it's really just a shame what has happened to COD, even Halo didn't stray that far from its base.
