Do you preorder games or wait to purchase them after they've been out for a while? (1 Viewer)

One thing I've seen brought up online is that many gamers refuse to pre order games because they're afraid the game might not end up as good as they thought it would be. Some people just wait for games to go on sale and then they'll purchase them. While I do preorder games, I typically only preorder games in my favorite franchises such as Sonic and Pokemon. I plan on pre ordering the upcoming racing Sonic game but will wait to get Pokemon Legends Z-A because I want to get a Switch 2 and play it on that console. How about you? Do you prefer to wait or do you preorder games?

I usually pre-order games these days, though most of the time I'm getting Nintendo-published releases, so I am not that worried about the quality being lower than expected.

Best Buy actually screwed up my pre-order of Donkey Kong Bananza, so I just went over to Target that morning instead and asked if they had any copies. The guy at the register had one right there, so I got that without a pre-order. First time in a while I have picked up a new release without utilizing a pre-order.

I only pre order games that I know for a fact I'm going to play and am reasonably confident are going to be good, which usually happens to be Nintendo games. I pre-ordered Mario Kart World with the Switch 2 and Donkey Kong Bananza as well.

Other than that, I don't pre order games.

The last non Nintendo game I pre-ordered was Red Dead Redemption 2 for a midnight release at GameStop. Good memories.

Frankly speaking, I have never preordered a game, I have never paid premium price to access the beta version of the game. I have always bought game after it was released. Sometimes I have even waited for a while for the price to go down.

I usually wait nowadays because Too many games launch broken or overhyped and you can grab them cheaper a few months later with patches already applied. Plus, reviews and player feedback give you the real picture not just marketing hype.

I stopped preordering since cyberpunk trauma. Now I wait small to see gameplay and reviews. Games are too expensive to be doing blind faith every year. I prefer to watch the early reactions before spending money.

One benefit on Switch for waiting a while to pick up a physical game is that Nintendo does cartridge revisions over time, so later prints of Switch Game Cards can sometimes have the downloadable updates on them, making them better for preservation.

This website actually keeps track of these cart revisions: List of Nintendo Switch cartridge revisions
